Gross Motor Skills Activity:  (Monday)

~Take a pinwheel outside in the wind and watch it spin.

~Parent and child take turns being the north wind.  Blow each other spinning (turning around as you move) across the room.

Fine Motor Skills Activity:  (Friday)

Make a Wind Sock!  Tape crepe paper or ribbons onto the end of a paper towel roll.  Attach a string to both sides of the other end of the roll.  Take it outside and hang it in the wind.
 

Shape/Color  (Tuesday)

This week you will teach the shape of a pentagon.

• Collect 3 - 5 everyday objects in the shape of a pentagon... this may be more difficult so you can make a few out of paper, felt, wood, etc... to share with your child and discuss.
• Here is a pentagon to trace.
• Cut pentagons out of playdough or cookie dough... bake the cookies!
• Put a drawing of a pentagon on your learning poster.

The letter this week is the letter U.

• Give your child a printout of the (capital) letter U to color.  ~Letter Printouts~
• Teach your child to trace the shape of the letter U using his finger.  You can trace in pudding, finger paint, a shallow tray (cookie sheet) filled with rice or beans, etc.
• Point out the letter U in signs, cereal boxes, etc.
• Post the letter U on your learning poster.

The number this week is the number 21.

• Show your child 21 objects to count, or eat 21 raisins, 21 cheerios, etc.
• Show your child the written symbol (numeral) for 21 and put on your learning poster.
• Add 21 stickers to your counting book.
• Show your matching index cards for the number 21 to your child.
• Draw 21 pentagons on a piece of paper and count them with your child.
• Walk around your home counting up to 21 objects.

The nursery rhyme this week is The North Wind Doth Blow.  Recite often!

The north wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will poor robin do then?
He'll sit in a barn,
To keep himself warm,
With his head tucked under his wing.
