Science
of the Week Lesson for
From
Seed to Pumpkin
written
and compiled by
Katrina
Lybbert
Day 1
-
Read From Seed to Pumpkin
by Wendy Pfeffer.
-
Put a sticker, drawing,
or picture of a pumpkin on your "My
Science Journey Poster."
-
Discuss the reading with
your child.
-
Discuss how a pumpkin
is really a fruit and not a vegetable. (See information at back of book.)
-
Decide if you will plant
a pumpkin seed or harvest a pumpkin or two. It all depends on the
time of year you work through this book. I recommend October, and
then save some seeds to plant the next spring. You might enjoy going
to a pumpkin farm to choose the best pumpkin.
Day 2
Be creative.... (choose
one or more suggestion)
-
Color a picture of a pumpkin.
-
Draw a picture.... I suggest
Draw
Write Now Book 2... you could definitely draw a pumpkin, or some other

-

(You may want to wait until after day 4, so you can choose your pumpkin
first... or switch Day 2 and Day 4 activities for this lesson plan.)
