What to do
in Week One
(Just a suggestion)
Ducky's Seasons by Dick McCue
Proverbs 25:11
"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."
The Little Bird
Once
I saw a little bird
Come
hop, hop, hop;
So
I cried, "Little bird,
Will
you stop, stop, stop?"
And
was going to the window
To
say, "How do you do?"
But
he shook his little tail,
And
far away he flew.
Giving Directions: (at bath time) Hand me your washcloth.
Teddy Bear Fun
Have a Teddy Bear picnic! Lay a blanket on your family room floor and surround it with your child's teddy bears and dolls. Set out non-messy snacks and have a picnic.
Another activity we have done... gather all the stuffed animals and dolls you own and place in a large pile. Place your child in the center of all the dolls and take a picture. If you have so many dolls that it is hard to pick out your own child in the picture, it may be time to declutter. <smile> This happened to us!
Bach: Andante from Concerto No. 5 for Keyboard & Orchestra BWV 1056
This Old Man
(For learning French -- you can substitute with choices of your own in a different language.)
Part
One: Learn a song in French -- Ah! vous dirai-je Maman
Part
Two: French Vocabulary -- la chaise (chair)
Optional: Choose an exercise from an exercise book to use with your toddler daily.
Sand Tray Drawing
Bring
some sand in from your sand box or trip to the beach. Cover a shallow
tray with the sand. Show your toddler how to draw in the sand with
his/her finger. Take turns drawing a picture.

1,2,3 to the Zoo: A Counting Book by Eric Carle
Proverbs 25:11
"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver."
"The Wrong House" from When We Were Very Young by A. A. Milne
Suggestion: Teach the sign for AIRPLANE.
(Depending on the season of the year you can rearrange these suggestions to work for you -- see the outdoor games link above.)
Sand Play -- either play in your own sand box at home, or find a beach, lake, or playground that does have one. Bring out sand toys and show your toddler how to build and dig.
Maracas -- you can use maracas from a rhythm band set (they can also be purchased individually) or create your own. If you make your own, be sure to seal them well so that your child will be safe from any small objects (choking hazards). You can tape two paper cups together with beans inside. Decorate.
Choose music with a latin rhythm and shake your maracas to the beat!
Arrane Saveenagh (Celtic) from the Celtic Cradle CD
Stick Puppets -- We have used paint stirring sticks for these puppets. Find 6 paint sticks. Then create 6 construction paper circles (about 4 inches in diameter). On each circle draw a face with a different emotion. For example: happy, sad, angry, scared, embarrassed, crying, etc. Show your toddler each puppet and talk about the different emotions.
Choose from the list of suggestions according to the current season.
