Puzzle Play

Look for wooden puzzles (with knobs) that are made just for toddlers.  If you are not able to buy any, then you can create your own very simple puzzles.  From craft foam sheets or cardboard, cut out a few simple shapes (circle, square and diamond).  See if your toddler can put them back into the right places.  Have fun with puzzles!

Cotton Ball Gluing Experience

This craft will take team work.  You spread a small amount of glue on a blue piece of construction paper.  Then let your toddler put a cotton ball on the glue.  Show her how it will stick to the paper.  Make a scene of clouds in the sky!

Outdoor Games

(Depending on the season of the year you can rearrange these suggestions to work for you -- see the outdoor games link above.)

Water Play -- set a sprinkler on your lawn and have fun running through it with your toddler.  You could also set up a small tub of water, or a toddler swimming pool in your backyard, and then let your toddler play with boats and other water toys.  Always supervise your toddler near water.

Musical Exploration

Loud, Soft, Fast, Slow

As the title of this exploration suggests, play a variety to music to show how music can be loud or soft or fast or slow.  Make a picture of a lion to hold up when the music is loud.  Make a picture of a mouse to hold up when the music is soft.  Make a picture of a rabbit to show when the music is fast, and a picture of a turtle to show when the music is slow.  See if your toddler can pick the right picture after you have showed a few examples.
