Indoor Games

Cereal Transfer

This is a game for fine motor skill development.  Find two containers that your child will find easy to put his hand in and out of.  It could be two small bowls, or two cups, or two plastic containers.  Fill one of the containers with some dry cereal.  Show your toddler how to move the cereal from one container to another.  Let you toddler do this for as long as he wants.  He can eat it when done playing!

Outdoor Games

Christmas Light Walk -- this would have to be done in the month of December.  If it is too cold to walk, you could take a drive in the car.

Musical Exploration

Jazz -- introduce your toddler to the world of jazz.  This type of music has less frequently been played in our family.  If this has not been the case in your family, then choose a different style of music that you may not listen to very often.  There is so much good music out there that you can find something new.

If you have some toy saxophones, drums, trumpets or other toy "jazz" instruments, get them out and pretend to play along.

Puppetry

Glove Puppets -- you can find glove puppets at the store or easily make your own.  The glove puppets we found at the store were in the form of animals.  Our daughter enjoys putting these on her hand and playing with them as they stay on better than hand puppets.  To make your own just use a pair of old/new gloves.  You can treat them like finger puppets and put faces and hair on each finger, or you can use the fingers of the glove like feet.  The puppets can be big or small depending on the size of glove you use.
